AGAATI  New York Trunk Show

AGAATI  New York Trunk Show

Co-Authored by: Roshni Gurung & Saloni Shrestha

AGAATI California had an exciting and exclusive preview of Spring Summer-2017 collection in the beautiful Art Studio located in the heart of the Garment District outlooking beautiful New York view on May 3rd 2017.  The event kicked off with a private Meet & Greet with fashion designers and bloggers before opening its doors to shoppers and industry professionals.

The event was in collaboration with sustainable fashion expert and blogger Faye lessler from Sustaining.life. Faye began a journey towards sustainable living over 5 years ago and is passionate about using Sustaining Life as a platform for helping and inspiring others to do the same.

The intent of our exclusive preview of our collection was also to put light on sustainability embedded in the AGAATI brand and its importance in today's fashion industry.

During the trunk show the designer Saloni Shrestha shared about the 2 pillars of AGAATI - working with artisan community to share their work with the world and maintaining a complete  transparency in the supply chain of the company. The designer shared how she personally works and trains the pattern makers and sewers buy visiting the factories. The visits enable not only making sure the employees are managed ethically and are in good working conditions with no child labor practices but also to make the sewers more skilled with high fashion garment construction and finishes.

The brief sharing session also threw light on the AGAATI working with the weavers and artisans society to enable the weaver community to continue presenting their endangered art to the world. The fabric for the special dress called Connection is hand weaved by weaver name Kamruddin, who is not only scared of losing his job but also feels that the artwork which his generation has learnt from their forefathers is soon going to die because of the fast fashion industry.

It was a wonderful evening. We had so much fun conversing and exchanging stories from the sustainable world. It was great to see familiar faces and make many new connections! Special mention to our sponsors Health Ade and Sundays Nail Salon for adding a unique flavour by their presence to the evening. you must read their inspiring stories.
