This pattern is part of a series called “The Roads”, inspired by lines and crossings. I was interested in creating an unusual textile texture with this piece. Technique: This piece is constructed in several steps. First, the previously-dyed pieces of felt and muslin are constructed into long strips (“roads”) through a hand-rolling process with warm, soapy water, with no stitching. Then these bands are placed alongside one another and threads from the muslin are pulled, thread by thread to connect the strips into a single textile. Finally, some of these threads are hand-wrapped with colored embroidery thread to add color and texture.
